Nance Van Winckel combines poetry with visual art in a form she calls PhoToems. She has authored eight poetry collections, most recently Our Foreigner (Beyond Baroque Books), winner of the 2017 Pacific Coast Poetry Series Prize. Her collection, Pacific Walkers (U. of Washington Press, 2014), was a finalist for the Washington State Book Award. Van Winckel has received three Pushcart Prizes, a Poetry Magazine's Friends of Literature Award, two National Endowment for the Arts Poetry Fellowships, and awards from the Poetry Society of America, among other honors. Her poems have appeared in Poetry, The American Poetry Review, Field, Volt, The Kenyon Review, and Ploughshares. She teaches in the Vermont College of Fine Arts low-residency MFA in Writing Program. She lives in Spokane, Washington.
